| MISSIONS IN ACTION 2002: News from your Missionaries, Bro. Eddie and Sis. Sharon LeGrand On Sunday, August 18, Pastor Pearman prayed for our mission trip to Berens River, Manitoba, Canada. Pastor stated, “I am believing God you are going to plant a church this time.” On August 20, along with Bro. Kelly Ewen, we left Kentucky to begin our travel of nearly 1600 miles toBerens River, Manitoba, Canada on a mission’s trip to the Ojibwa NativeIndians. Three days later, we arrived in Pine Dock and had to takea ferry across part of the lake to get to Madison Island and then take asmall plane to get into the Island of Berens River where Brother Tony Bittern, native of Berens River was waiting for us. Brother Tony received hisminister’s license this past June, but did not have a church. He shared his desire to reach the people on the North side of this remoteisland, where the ghetto area is located. We had never been to thisarea before and there was no church or church building. Many of thepeople were alcoholics, drug addicts, lacquer and glue sniffers, prostitutesand whoremongers. Upon arrival, we had to put up a tent to hold our meetings. Bro. LeGrand began on Saturday night preaching his heart out to these people. The Holy Ghost showed up, but no one responded to the altar call. Thenthe second night the same thing happened. Then finally on the thirdnight, Bro. LeGrand asked the people to form a circle and hold hands. One by one, the people responded. About half of the people were highon drugs, alcohol, or from sniffing lacquer, but the Holy Spirit was movingand began to deal with their hearts. One by one, they began to cryand weep before the Lord. One by one, they began to call on the nameof the Lord to be saved. One man in particular, named Carman beganto weep uncontrollably. He began to shake and shake. God hadset him free! Another night a man came into the service and ran downto the altar and fell on his face weeping and crying before the Lord. Before the night was over, he too had received deliverance from the lacquer. Many others were prayed for and received deliverance. God gave Bro.Kelly a special anointing as he played his guitar and sang. There werefive little native girls around seven or eight years old who sang duringour meetings. God blessed us with so much favor with these people.Preaching tag team with Bro. LeGrand, Sister LeGrand ministered on how Godloved these people so much that He came to Berens River looking for themjust like King David went to Lo-debar in search of Mephibosheth. (SeeII Samuel 9) They are now going to eat continually at the King’s table,as one of the king’s sons! No more hiding out in a place of despairand brokenness! On our last meeting day, the people planned a luncheon for us. We were going to hold it in the tent, but as we arrived on the premises, the wind had blown the tent down. People were saddened and discouraged by the tent on the ground. But suddenly, Bro. Carman said, “It won’t take us but an hour or so to put that tent back up and we’ve got enough men to help.” So, they began to put the tent up, men, women and children all pitched in and helped. Sister LeGrand was taking pictures of the event and began to weep as she watched the unity of the people putting that tent back together. Before you know it, the tent was up and the last meeting was on. Bro. Tony Bittern is the Reservation’s policeman and had arrested many of these people in times past and now he is going to be their pastor! Doesn’t God have a sense of humor? What a kick in the old devil’s face! Now, these people are children of God and are looking forward to having a future in the Lord. God did a special thing in the hearts of those native people and something special in us. Harvest time is truly here and plentiful! You planted your seed in this ministry and as you can see in the pictures, we brought back a harvest of souls! YOU helped make it all possible. We are so proud to be a part of a church that cares about the hurting people across this world as well as at home. As your missionaries, we want you to know how much we appreciate Pastor Pearman and Sister Pat and Gloryland Harvest Church! We give glory to God and thanks to you a new church is now planted in Berens River, Manitoba, Canada! |
